If it is socially acceptable to have a favorite genius, and, yes, even if it is not, mine is Einstein. Not because he came up with some crazy equations and earth shattering ideas that explained the majority of the scientific world, but because he seemed to understand humanity in strange and unprecedented ways. He had a remarkable capacity for knowing the pure essence of humanity, a feat few to none can claim without being accused of some higher form of self-assured egotistical rambling. You may be wondering, "Jo, I get that Einstein was the 1D of the science world, and his posters line the hallways of many a dreary high school building, but what's the point?" Well my friend, the point is this: While a book of Einstinian quotations would benefit anyone, and while I adore every one I have ever had the pleasure of reading, Einstein made note of something I wish for you all to remember from this day forward: "Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." It makes you think... everyone in the world knows at least one if not hundreds of things you don't know. In fact, there is not a single chance that someone out there DOESN'T know something you don't. You can learn from anyone, and anyone can learn from you! In fact, if we all lived with this as our motto, wouldn't life be better? Wouldn't the world be more efficient? All of us, combining our diverse knowledge and creating, as a documentarian once put it, a world brain? A single sentence could rewrite the planet. Quotes are powerful things. They can make you think, and drive you to explore new truths, or perhaps renew old ones.. Look guys, we're young. But you're never too young to think big. Why not start now? I'll be starting a series in the next few days focusing on one particular person's wise wisdom wizard words. (don't go thinking it's Einstein. That is for another time) I'm sure the book nerds among you will appreciate the object of our scrutiny.. ;) Until next time! |
